How to Enable LDAC Bluetooth Audio on Android Devices.
If you’re an audiophile or just someone who loves great sound, you’ve probably heard about LDAC. It’s a high-quality audio codec developed by Sony that lets you enjoy superior sound quality over Bluetooth. If you’re using an Android device and want to get the most out of your wireless headphones or speakers, enabling LDAC is a must try.
In this step-by-step video guide, I explain the steps to enable LDAC on your Android phone or tablet.
What You Need
Before starting, make sure you have the following:
- An Android device that supports LDAC (like the Sony Xperia 1V running Android 14 or Android 15).
- LDAC-compatible Bluetooth headphones or speakers like the Sony WH-1000XM5.
- A few minutes to adjust your settings.
Step 1: Enable Developer Options
For the Sony WH-1000XM5 I didn’t need to do the below but for some phone – headphones combinations you might need to do this.
First, you might need to unlock the Developer Options menu on your Android device. This is how:
- Open the Settings app on your Android device.
- Scroll down and tap on About phone or About device.
- Look for the Build number (it’s near the bottom of the list).
- Tap the Build number 5 to 7 times. You’ll see a message saying, “You are now a developer!”
Step 2: Access Developer Options
Now that you’ve enabled Developer Options, it’s time to find the Bluetooth audio codec settings:
- Go back to the main Settings menu.
- Tap on System or Advanced settings (this may vary depending on your device).
- Select Developer options.
Step 3: Enable LDAC
Once you’re in the Developer Options menu, follow these steps:
- Scroll down until you find Bluetooth audio codec.
- Tap on it to open the list of available codecs.
- From the list, select LDAC.
Step 4: Connect Your Bluetooth Device
Now that LDAC is enabled, it’s time to connect your headphones or speakers:
- Turn on your LDAC-compatible Bluetooth headphones or speakers.
- Pair them with your Android device if you haven’t already.
- Once connected, you should notice a significant improvement in audio quality. The sound will be richer, more detailed, and just overall better.
For the Sony WH-1000XM5, you will have the LDAC toggle in the Bluetooth headphones properties of your headphones after you pair them.
Why Use LDAC?
LDAC is designed to transmit high-resolution audio over Bluetooth, which means you get to hear more of the details in your music. If you’re listening to your favorite playlist or watching a movie, LDAC makes everything sound clearer and more immersive.
Conclusion
Enabling LDAC on your Android device is a simple process that can make a huge difference in your listening experience. Just follow the steps above, and you’ll be enjoying the better sound quality in no time. If you have any questions or run into issues, feel free to drop a comment below. Happy listening!
Tip: If you don’t see LDAC as an option, double-check that your headphones or speakers support it. Not all Bluetooth devices are compatible with LDAC, so it’s a good idea to confirm it can work before starting.
I really like using yhe Sony XM5 headphones and for a few months when it was hot outside, I didn’t even use them for anything.
In the colder weather, I use them.
